Weaving together two brands united by purposeful design and a shared belief in creating spaces that bring people together.
When the opportunity arose to collaborate with STUDIO KÁJA and furnish our eatery, we embraced an ethos that mirrors our own: thoughtful design, artisanal integrity, and a respect for material and maker.
STUDIO KÁJA was born from a question that lingered long after the sketches were made: “How can we create furniture that not only gives life to spaces, but also respects people and planet?” For founder and designer Simone, the answer unfolded slowly; shaped by childhood memories of her mother’s intuitive eye for home, the creative legacy of entrepreneurial women in her family, and the moment she first encountered the timeless work of Charles and Ray Eames during her studies in Cape Town.
From those early inspirations to a fully realised studio, STUDIO KÁJA has grown into a confident voice in Cape Town’s design landscape, crafting pieces that balance form and function, tradition and imagination. Every item is made by hand in close collaboration with Pierre Cronje Fine Furniture and local artisans, using FSC-certified woods, water-based finishes, and materials selected as much for their environmental integrity as for their tactile beauty.
“We believe the human touch adds soul,” says Simoné. “That’s why we focus on craftsmanship; not only to preserve time-honoured techniques, but to tell meaningful stories through every maker’s signature.”
In furnishing Loading Bay, STUDIO KÁJA has imbued each corner with intention: clean lines, intuitive forms, and furniture designed to move with life and not against it. These are pieces to be lived with, shared, and passed on.
Inspired by daily rituals and nostalgic cafés - a celebration of life, design, and togetherness.
